6 days Kenya safari and beach holiday

This safari combines two very different destinations in one seamless safari. Spend a few days experiencing exceptional game viewing in the heart of Africa’s most iconic game reserves, Maasai Mara, and then round off the adventure with a beach holiday on Kenya’s best beach, Diani Beach to soak up some sunshine along tropical beaches.

Kick back in the soft white sand shaded by coconut fronds as you engage in a range of water sports like sailing, windsurfing, snorkeling and swimming with dolphins. This is the ultimate bush and beach safari experience!

Day 1

Upon landing at Olkiombo Airstrip, you will be met by our skilled Maasai guide ready to take you on your first game drive en-route to our camp. Maasai Mara is one of Africa’s greatest wildlife reserves. Enjoy the scenery, abundant wildlife and an array of birdlife.

Arrive for lunch at Basecamp Maasai Mara. Relax for some time before meeting up with your guide for an afternoon game drive to experience some of the best wildlife sightings. Return to camp for the dinner followed by story sharing and stargazing around the fireplace.

Day 2

Rise early for a morning game drive in Maasai Mara Reserve. Enjoy driving across the vast Mara Plains and keep your eyes open, for anything is possible! Watch out for the herd of elephant and listen to the distinctive lion’s roar. Head back to camp for breakfast.

Later, you will visit one of the community projects supported by Basecamp, the Basecamp Maasai Brand a Fair-trade-certified handicraft business that enables Maasai women to apply their beading skills to produce and sell their handcrafted products, providing them with a reliable source of their own income.

Day 3

Wake up to a late breakfast; spend your time relaxing in camp watching the wildlife just in front of your tent. The camp has a lot of eco-initiatives, which you may wish to learn about during your stay. Learn about Basecamp’s reforestation project that is intended to re-wild the Mara.

We encourage our guests to contribute to offsetting their carbon footprint by planting a tree at a minimal fee. After lunch, head off to your next destination, Wilderness Camp in Mara Naboisho Conservancy. Enjoy dinner, followed by story sharing and stargazing around the fireplace. Retire to your tent and be lulled to sleep by the sounds of the savannah.

Day 4

With only eight tents at Wilderness camp, you will have the privilege of ultimate seclusion. Enjoy the tranquil surroundings and the passing wildlife. Join your guide on a bushwalking safari in Naboisho Conservancy. No feeling can match walking across the open savannah together with the Maasai the true specialists.

As darkness sets in, set out for a thrilling night game drive which allows you to see predators on the prowl as well as other nocturnal wildlife. Return to camp for dinner, and story telling around the fireplace.

Day 5

Make the most of your last game drive safari returning to camp for a sumptuous breakfast. Afterward, say your goodbyes. Arrive at the airstrip in time for your direct flight to Diani Beach, located along Kenya’s coast. The flight to Diani is approximately 2 hours.

Upon arrival, you will be met by the driver at Ukunda Airstrip and transferred to a Beach Resort. On arrival, check in, freshen up and have a sunset walk along the beach to familiarize yourself with the area. Return to the resort for dinner and entertainment.

Day 6

Have an early tropical breakfast and then proceed with your guide on a Dolphin Safari to Wasini Island. (Please check with the hotel reception as this is at an additional cost). The island excursion is done aboard an Arabian-style dhow – a traditional style of sailboat.

Wasini Island is a gateway to an underwater wonderland. It is also a great place for water sports. Enjoy a traditional lunch, served Swahili-style on the beach. After a short siesta, board the Arab dhow to sail back to Diani.
